In 2022, Kevin Harris, FAIA, Architect; Henry Bein, AIA, Architect; and Nick Dubuc, Assoc. AIA each completed the coursework and earned a Certificate in Classical Architecture from the Institute of Classical Architecture & Art (ICAA). The certificate signifies a high level of knowledge and expertise in the principles and practices of classical architecture and design.
“I am extremely proud of my team members for earning this certification,” said Harris. “This certification is a testament to our design studio’s passion, skills, knowledge, and expertise. I am confident that it will help us continue providing the highest level of service to our clients. Though we are the first to earn the designation in the State of Louisiana, I hope many more will follow suit. We are blessed to have some of the best architecture in the country, and understanding these principles will only enable us to continue that tradition.”
The ICAA certificate program provides architects and designers with a working knowledge of classical architectural design. Requirements include a minimum of 100 credits of coursework in the subject areas of The Classical Elements, Proportion, and Geometry, Drawing and Rendering, the Study of Precedents, the Literature of Classical Architecture, the Building Arts, and Composition.
The Institute of Classical Architecture & Art (ICAA) is a nonprofit membership organization committed to promoting and preserving the practice, understanding, and appreciation of classical design. To do so, the ICAA offers a broad range of educational programs. These include intensives for architecture and design students, introductory programs for middle school students, lectures and walking tours for the public, continuing education courses for professionals and enthusiasts, travel programs to visit classical masterpieces, the publishing of original and reprinted books, and an annual journal entitled the Classicist.
The ICAA is a national organization with 15 chapters across the country (including Louisiana). It is headquartered in New York City. Each chapter organizes its local programming to reflect the unique members and architectural traditions in its region.
