Baton Rouge, La., Jan. 11, 2017- The Institute of Classical Architecture & Art Louisiana Chapter will host Margot Ellis, author of “Americans in Paris,” for a lecture, book signing and exhibition in Baton Rouge and New Orleans on Jan. 25 and 26, respectively. The Baton Rouge event will be held at the Louisiana State Archives. The New Orleans event will be held at the Tulane School of Architecture.
The recently published “Americans in Paris” documents the stories and works of American architects who attended the famed École de Beaux-Arts in Paris. The book also details the architects’ return to America and their success in designing grand buildings and monuments. Many of these buildings are still regarded as some of the greatest triumphs in American architecture.
“After looking at Margot’s book, I am tremendously excited to hear her lecture on the history of the École de Beaux-Arts and its lasting impact on architecture,” says Kevin Harris, President of ICAA LA. “Architecture and the corresponding arts mirror culture and life and these designs are some of best examples of that principle.”
Not only is the book rich in history and culture, it is also packed with remarkable sketches from the school’s students. Ellis will accompany her lecture with an exhibit of some of these drawings so the public can see, first hand, the detail that went into their creation.
Registration for the event is located on Eventbrite with separate pages for both Baton Rouge and New Orleans. There is free admission for the event but donations to the organization are also being accepted. The event has been approved for one AIA Continuing Education credit.
