Each quarter AIA conducts a survey to research the most popular home design trends around the country. Here are a few important highlights from their research:
Outdoor living spaces continue to be a popular feature when it comes to special function rooms. Outdoor living spaces lend themselves to entertaining purposes as well as a peaceful area where homeowners can relax. Additionally, another special-function room homeowners are focusing on including in their homes is a mud room.
When it comes to special features, multigenerational living options are growing in popularity. It is becoming more and more popular to make a home just as friendly to the young and old rather than just the homeowners.
The number one technology feature in homes is going wireless. Wireless can mean a plethora of things: wireless sound systems, lighting, and security systems (just to name a few). Automation is also growing in popularity throughout the recent years.
On the product front, energy management systems such as smart thermostats are taking the lead. Respondents of the survey also note that products with low maintenance needs are becoming more and more popular.
When it comes to business conditions, it is being reported that the condominium market is making a recovery. Additionally, home improvement projects continue to outdo new home construction.
