Each quarter AIA conducts a survey to research the most popular home design trends around the country. The research conducted for Quarter 1 is from the bath and kitchen area. Here are a few important highlights from their research:
Bath
If you are planning to renovate your bathroom or designing a new one, bigger is better according to AIA findings!! In 2018, 28% of respondents reported that the number of bathrooms is increasing and 31% reported that the size of bathrooms is increasing.
Larger walk-in showers and stall showers without a tub are the most desired features for bathrooms with a 61% vote from firm respondents. For any bathtub lovers, the freestanding bathtub is the most popular of all bathtubs with a 34% vote.
Showers are the most frequently considered design element to a bathroom. Door less/no threshold shower was voted 62% by respondents. Some other considerations could be a water saving toilet or smart toilet.
Kitchen
The number of kitchens is growing; however, the size of kitchen continues to stay stable. There is an increase from 29% in 2017 to 34% in 2018 of respondents who say the number of kitchens is growing. 74% of respondents say they are stable in size.
The most popular feature is the outdoor kitchen reporting at 49%. Open to household living space is at a close second with 46%. There is a large increase from 23% in 2017 and 33% in 2018 for wine refrigerator/storage.
The 2018 hot kitchen item of the year was concealed and disguised lighting. Similar lighting would be lighting under cabinets. Upper-end appliances were voted second most requested item.
